I am in need of a new batch of cure#1. Is there a difference between brands?
What is your favorite to use and why? Thanks in advance.

It comes under many names, cure 1, Prague powder, insta cure, sure cure. And others, but here in the US it is as a formula standardized as 93.75% sodium chloride and 6.25% sodium nitrite. Just make sure the ingredient label matches that. I’ve used most of the brands they all work the same.

Some brands are kind of fluffy, where others are more granular (like traditional table salt) but they are all designed to deliver the correct amount of sodium nitrite.

Using this one right now from Amazon.

^^^^Not sure why it looks white in the pic, it's definitely bright pink and this jar will last me a couple years, even though I'm doing a fair amount of bacon and sausage.

Prior to that I finished off this one:

Both work(ed) well, didn't notice anything about them different.

This is currently what I have in the cabinet.

I currently use Fiesta brand. You see their spices in most stores but not always the curing salt.
I got a 1# container at Academy Sports for around $6
That's enough to last me for years.

This! Brand doesn't really matter since the formulation is standardized in the US. What I'm working on now came off Amazon from Spice Labs.

A pound goes a long way so the pink color of mine has faded to nearly white like regular table salt but still works as advertised.

I bought a small bottle of that one time in a pinch . Got it at Academy . Damn thing had a shaker top on it . Just wondering if yours did , or if I got a mistake bottle .
Fiesta has some great seasonings .

Got my bottle from academy. It has a Shaker top.
Makes you worry about somebody using it as plain salt.

Exactly . I bought mine because my order from TSM didn't show up in time . I was shocked when I saw that , and took it off and tossed it .

As long as it doesn't pick up any moisture, it will last a long time.

Yep both of them had the standard shaker top.
I just lift it off to scoop out what I need. I tried to remove it and the jar didn't seal well enough for my liking.

With the huge rise in popularity of Himalayan (pink) salt I worry about confusion both ways.

I had a friend let me sample some bear that he cured with pink salt. Turned out he used Himalayan and not true cure.

I store my bottles of cure away from the spice cabinet and my wife knows it is NOT to be touched.
