Picked up a 20 lb bag of Western Premium BBQ Products Lump Charcoal at Academy Sports & Outdoors. $15.99 Got it home & poured the bag out onto a screen I made for cleaning landscaping gravel. There was probably 70% usable chunks & branch pieces & the rest was pieces that fell thru the screen & not usable at all. Maybe it was due the shipping or the handling at the store.

It lit fast, a chimney full was ready to go in under 10 minutes, but did spark a lot. It served well to get a coal bed for my pecan splits, but made more ash than the B&B I've been using.

Ok for use in a pinch, but I'll keep using B&B & the HEB brand as my go to lump.

Thanks for the heads-up. I've seen this lump at Academy and wondered how it would perform.
