Hey yall, I got (Nearly) caught up in a scam involving magazines. A few month's ago I started gettin some magazines I never ordered, no bill no nothin, just started comin, never signed up fer em either.

Tonight, I get a phone call from some company that I couldn't catch the name of. First fella was named Roy, his boss, brice. Had some of my information, these guys are good. Calling to continue my magazines, got some personal info outa me because they new an awful lot, but then they started makin some mistakes, didn't have a home address, only new bout 1 magazine I got an asked what other ones I was gettin an so forth, then wanted to confirm all my information includin my mailin address. That's when I told him to cancel everything, he said they can't do that, I said I never ordered any magazines an unless he could send me a contract to the fact that I had I was done.

He threatend to send it to a collection agency an I told him I would be changin my card (he had some a the numbers, so I'm changin it first thing tammarraw) an contact the state attorney generals office. He then hung up.

So folks, be carefull if ya start gettin some free magazines an somebody calls ya up talkin fast. I'm usually perty carefull with my information an these guys got more outa me then usuall until I caught on.

I won't be so nice, "go get f)*&(*d" and hang up!!!

Thanks for the notice, and nice work on the grinder(send samples anytime)LOL

I had almost the same situation. Do a reverse lookup on the phone number that called you if you can. They are located on the east coast. I told them to take me off their call list, the guy just laughed and told me that they would keep calling me whether I wanted them to or not. I called my cell company and had them put a nuisance block on the number. haven't had any problems since!

It started with Maxim, but after that he wanted me to start namin what mags I was gettin, accordin to him they had me as a customer, they should know what ones I was gettin, not havin me name em off. Some I named off don't even exist an he fell fer that. That's when I decided I'd already given out to much info an was puttin an end to it.

Not havin my home address, I'm curious how he's gonna send a bill?

We had a similar problem at work with them claiming so and so had authorized a business listing. Finally had to turn them over to the Attorney General...we record all calls. They don't call us anymore.

These scammers are good. The one thing that they want you to do is say the word "yes", if you do, they can and will go back and edit the tape of their conversation with you and they will play back your answer. In the end, it sounds like you're say "yes" to all their questions.

When I get a telemarketing call like this, I'll give them answers but won't say yes. The last gal got so frustrated, she asked if I could say "yes" and I replied, "Ain't in my vocabulary" and she hung up on me!!! How RUDE!!

Great info, especially about the not saying yes and recording calls. How did they get your cell # we don't have a line phone anymore for this reason (one of the reasons)

Thanks for the heads up friend. I've been getting bogus calls from people purporting to be from my bank. They're pretty smoothe themselves. They have just enough general info to get you to let your guard down. Then they ask more specific questions like parts of your SS number and part of account numbers. I just tell em that I'll go to my bank and handle any transactions and clear up any discrepencies with my accounts there. Then I visit my bank and make sure my accounts are all up to date.

This has been happening more and more lately. Cell phone numbers are being targeted a lot by this around here. These scammers are engaging in a tactic called SMiShing. This is where they will text a message to your phone alleging to be from a bank or company in an attempt to elicit a call or response text giving up personal information. An exact definition can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMiShing. This happened to my girlfriend and our roommate. The texts alleged to be from their bank Wells Fargo. Neither of them fell for it.

In response to the original post, here is a site that will help if you happened to have fallen for the scam: http://www.ripoffreport.com/Credit-C...-rip-2fa56.htm

Hope this helps, never know who you can trust anymore these days.
