Ok I got a question about the cooler usage..... Has or does anyone use one of those coolers that you can plug in and either make them cool or heat? I was just wondering if it would be benefitial to use one and have it on heat mode? I don't think they make alot of heat, I think they are more designed to keep heated things warm when traveling.....I am just wondering I have two of them and thought they might be the ticket for this purpose.........I might be totally off base here, I have never used the cooler techneic yet................

I honestly can't see any reason that it wouldn't work....especially if you intend to hold the meat for an extended amount of time before pulling it.
I would still do the foil/towel bit with it though.....good insulation is your best bet for heat retention........the heater will just prolong this.

you say you have 2 of these coolers?? Do a test....nuke a wet towel until its hot....wrap it in foil.....and keep track of the temp. Try it with just the cooler....and with the cooler on "heat"......see where I'm going with this??

It's definitely worth checkin' out, IMHO....

Kookie I did a 7#r last week, pulled it off at 200 @ 8 oclock at nite, was to pooped to stay up for it,wrapped in foil & towels and in the cooler overnite. The next morning I took it out bout 9 am. & was still warm, pulled real easy.I think not much use for those coolers in this instance but as far as keeping hot grub warm for extended period of time I think they'd worked fine.I have often thought about picking 1 up.I have played with my thermo. in a iced down cooler & can keep a 40-45* reading-I would like to know how warm in yours in the heat setting?

Both my smokes on Sunday were foiled, wrapped (only in small towels, wife wouldn't let me use a bath towel) then coolered. Both were taken out after 2 hours. The meat was still almost too hot to handle. Had to start pulling apart with a couple of forks until cooled further.

I'd think if you wanted to transport some food for a long trip they would help keep the temp up.
