I'm never watched a soccer game (other than my kids playing), but anytime the US makes it to a world finals type thing I'm rooting for them.

Never played soccer but I love watching world class soccer. Actually, I love watching any expert do what they do best.

My son played on a travel soccer team that was coached by the captain of the World Cup Netherlands team from years past.

I played up until I was mid 30's , then coached youth from K thru 8th grade .
Both boys and girls .
I was on vacation in Cancun Mexico one year they were in . I think 2002 ?
The game was on so I went to one of the resort taverns to watch . Ended up sitting with guys from all over the world . Ireland , Germany , England , Australia you name it . Once in a lifetime experience . Just a great time . It was all inclusive after all . Lol .

Canada has the strongest team in Concacaf this cup. I expect them to go the farthest. The USA team is a really young team, I think it is all practice for 2026 when USA, Canada, and Mexico host the World Cup.

I have to say, they are really enjoyable to watch on TV and in person. Since moving to Orlando I have become a fan of Orlando City SC, the MLS team here. The dedicated MLS stadiums are smaller (ours is around 25,000 seats - not a bad seat in the house), and the game-day environment is really fun and family friendly. Notably, the MLS fan base seems to be different than what I've seen at NFL games. Even the cheap seats are really family friendly, you don't see drunk meatheads trying to fight each other.

My only complaint is I think USMNT, USWNT, and the MLS on the whole do a terribly job of marketing and advertising. I want to watch on TV but I am always asking myself when the games are, and often have to dig deep to find it (especially USMNT and USWNT). They'd do a lot better if they could find a way to get the word out.

Great points . The draw back to watching is the over acting trying to draw a penalty .
I grew up in an area that was big into Soccer . Played and coached with a guys that played professional MLS and indoor .

I agree, if they could just get those damned snipers off the roof maybe the guys wouldn't go down without being touched as often!

edit: this is one of the reasons I like watching the USWNT as much or more than the USMNT. The womens' game doesn't seem to have the diving problem that the mens' game does. Guess the ladies are tougher!

I am a season ticket holder for the Seattle sounders and use their web site as well as MLSoccer site. MLSsoccer publishes all US, Canada, and Mexico games. It's what I use to keep me informed as to when the matches are.

If they would only hand out a red card every time, it wouldn't take long to take acting 101 out of the game.

IMO diving should be called as ungentlemanly conduct which is a cautionable (yellow card) offense. Way back in the day I was a FIFA certified referee for soccer. I officiated probably 100+ youth matches over a couple year period in the early 2000s and usually at the 14-16 age group club level (sometimes called "traveling"). There wasn't a problem with diving, and on the off-hand time it happened a quick "cut it out, next one is a yellow" was more than enough to prevent ever having to show a card. I am sure it's not called ungentlemanly conduct any more as that is not woke. But that's what it was called when I took the classes!

It is called simulation now days and is a yellow card. Problem is, it isn't called enough.

Whats really fortunate is that USA and Canada will be in the next two world cups guarenteed, USA, Canada, and Mexico host the 2026 cup. This will be big for growing the sport at least in the USA. International football will never really compete with american football for viewership.

Soccer wasn't a big sport in VT when I was growing up. During my sophomore year in high school they decided to make it a varsity sport. Well since we didn't have any youth leagues back then our team was mostly made up of hockey players getting in shape for the season. Believe me, it wasn't a pretty sight to watch us play. Most schools didn't want anything to do with us. Since we lacked any real soccer skills, and played a more physical game then finesse. I did manage to learn a few things during my three years playing and coached my kids teams both travel and school. It was fun watching them develop. I still don't watch any soccer matches, but do respect their skills.

BTW: At halftime in high school we'd switch out our starting goalie and move him to midfield. He wound up being our leading scorer at the end of the year. Now that's pretty sad.

When I went to school, back in the Dark Ages, we never played soccer at the one-room schoolhouses I went to, or the Feed Mill I went to 2nd grade in.
Then once I got to High School, we played soccer one day a year, for a 45 minute period.

Yes this will really boost the sport even more around here. It is not bad at most levels but this will really help it out.
