Hey guys

I plan to upgrade my smoker in the spring from my Elcheapo Wallyworld Special to a Mes30. The Elcheapo has served its purpose, and I'll be giving it to a fellow who thinks he wants to start smoking but doesn't have the available cash to purchase a smoker--Elcheapo or not it has treated me pretty good and it's a good starting point for a new, broke smoker.

So........I definitely want a Mes30 Gen 1. I'm leaning more toward MasterBuilt's Mes30 digital without the window or the remote control. I really don't feel the need to look at my food while I'm smoking and God knows I don't need another remote---I already have remotes for the TV, stereo, garage door, electric property gate, Linda's remote starter on her 4x4, and I'll be getting a Maverick meat thermometer. I can't even keep track of these, let alone one for the Mes30--I would probably open the garage when I wanted to adjust the smoker LOL. My question is this. Aside from the glass door and the remote, are the two smokers the same???? I'll be doing the mailbox mod for the Amnps, and building a stand and work station for the Mes (just getting too old to be bending over double at the smoker).

All help appreciated.

Gary

See if you can find the spec sheets for both. I think there is a heat element difference. I use the window one at work. The glass gets pretty covered, so not much to see. The remote is in a drawer at my desk, never been used.

I would say if you can swing it, go for the MES40. The 30 you have to cut your ribs down to fit on the racks. No whole turkeys in the 30, unless they are small. Just very limited with size on the 30's.
