Give either a go at 275 to 300° (I usually run 275° but have pushed pit temps above and tell me if there is a difference in the final product.I've not done any 'hot and fast' cooks, I'm more of a 'low and slow' kinda guy :)
Perhaps I'll look into that sometime. I've always thought that for pork butts and brisket that low and slow was the only way. Anyway, that's content for a different thread, but thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'll certainly explore that.
My Thermopro 2,000' TempspikeXR with booster dual probe arrives tomorrow. It says on Amazon 15+ days on receiver and 30+ hours on probes on one of their pics. Can you tell me how long the battery lasts on this? I was reading reviews and one reviewer stated that he was getting about 8 hours of battery. As I regularly smoke 8+ hours that could be a problem.
Sorry for the late reply. I have been offline for a while. I recently smoked a pork butt for 8.5 hours. After the smoke was done the base unit still showed 100% charged and both probes showed abut 70%.Can you tell me how long the battery lasts on this? This is the one I decided to get. It showed up this morning and I'm currently using to smale a turkey breast, duck, and beef ribs. So far it's working great. I really like having a dedicated receiver and not relying on a phone app. I like this a lot.I have a Thermopro TempSpike XR also. It only has two probes but each probe registers both internal and ambient temperature. Not a fan of phone apps either. The Thermpro comes with it's own remote. Controls very user friendly.

I have done several more smokes on my Thermopro TempSpike including a 10 pound turkey breast this week. Also I did buy the optional booster. For a person like me that has had phone app issues It's great. Nothing against Thermoworks. I have owned a Thermapen Classic for years and a just recently got a Thermapen One (which I love). I have used the Thermopro probes in a pork loin that was inside a covered cast iron oven with no issues and in a pork butt that was outside a closed garage door with no loss of signal. This is the one I decided to get. I'm generally not a fan a phone apps for anything but in this case with the TempSpike app it works great and is easy to deal with. And if some issue does arise all pertinent info is displayed and is controllable from the booster.I have no issues with the phone app , I actually like it better . Pull the spike out of the charger / booster , it connects , and stays connected . Love it .
My thing is I spend time in the shop . So using the SmokeFire and TempSpike I can control and keep an eye on it from there . Never fails if I take something down there , I forget it when I come upstairs .the TempSpike app it works great and is easy to deal with
