We do bout the same thin, cept we set em on a bucket, put the charcoal on there an then the dutch oven. Works out real nice. Stuff like that is always handy.

U know, I got an old dutch oven here that I have had since Moby ****
wasa minnow..not too big but I think it will be about right for a cake of cornbread. Think I am gonna figger out how to use it. I used to watch
granmaw pull the hot embers outta the fireplace onto the hearth and set
it on the coals and shovel a scoop of coals onna top.
I was a sure enough kid at the time so U know just how much
attention I paid.
I have had folks at yard sales and auctions and flea markets try to
sell me ''dutch ovens'' that were nothing more than pots. As far as I
remember all the dutch ovens that I have seen had ''laigs''[legs] and a
''flange'' around the top to hold the coals. Most folks don't know
what the fireplace tools and hearth were for.. Yeah, I'm oldern' dirt..
Hemi..

The ones without legs and rounded tops are for cooking in kitchen ovens...

Are they also called dutch ovens ? ain't an arguement, just don't know..
Hemi..

They call them that but then I believe it is alot like Scotch Tape, people call any cellophane tape Scotch tape even if 3M didn't make it. They use the name generically.

Ifin yer splitten hairs on the ovens, the "Dutch Oven" has no legs er lip on the lid an er fer usin in the wood stove. The "Camp Oven" has the legs an the lip on the lid fer holdin coals.

In the woods there called a dutch oven, Plain an simple.

Ifin ya wanna learn that oven, let me know, I'll hep ya out, love cookin in em. Lots a good food comes outa that cast. Them old ones like yall got there are worth there wieght in gold fer as I'm concerned!

Well, now I know..no sarcasim intended.. really didn't know.. Thanx for the info. might take U up on that offer...around here they run 10-25 bucks at flea markets . Thanx again.

Actually, it goes like this:

"How do you catch a unique rabbit?"

"You 'nique' up on it!"

"How do you catch a tame rabbit?"

"The tame way!"

heh heh!

Hemi-If that Camp Oven has more than just surface rust on it, check out this link-it's an excellent way to get rid of the really bad rust
Electrolysis Rust Removal. We also have a Forum Section here at SMF for Dutch Oven users that will help "learn ya".

The International Dutch Oven Society has some good electrolysis info also. IDOS Electrolysis

Dutch, thanx for the advice but actually what U see in the picture is
just a good coating of dust.. It has been on the top shelf of the garage
storage area forever. Dust and cobwebbs.. Hemi.
