I just received my horizon smoker. It has a convection plate in it. And I have slid it around trying to find the right spot for even cooking. The best I can come up with is 20 degree dif from side to side is that to much? I would like it to be in the 5-10 mark. But can't figure it out. Any tips or ideas would be great too. Thanks

Hickory-Smoke, morning....  Does your smoker look like this one ??...   Side Firebox Smokers with tuning plates.... I think you are as close as you can get with a 20 deg difference from side to side.....  Not sure... don't have one but reading about them here, the heat from the fire box keeps that side warmer....  Someone on this site will jump in here and maybe describe some mods they have done to improve on the heat difference...   Dave

Yes, Hickory, with your smoker , you'll have a hot-spot, that's not bad though , a hint... find some 'Firebrick' and place it in the bottom for more ballast to hold heat. Works great , more at the distal end to hold closer to the SFB side...

Have fun and...
