There is a drum reconditioer in Hamtramack that I use I get fresh reconditioned drums for $25 or so depending on what he has

This ain't going to help none ya'll northerner's but I recently picked up two brand new open headed steel drums for $32 ea. here in Dallas. I just did a google for Steel drums and found them... I would think you would have something similar in your neck of the woods... better than having to burn them out! If interested, I can post pics of my 'all new' UDS.

I would think you would still have to burn them before use. Both inside and outside must be coated to inhibit rust, no?

The barrels that I have were painted on the outside and bare steel on the inside, I did season them with veggie oil before the first cook...

Here are the barrels I get -$12 ea. - had pineapple in them.
Open top with lid and clamping ring, lid has a rubber seal.
Works for me.
