First smoke after a couple mods to my trailmaster. 2 tri tips each with a different rub for taste testing

These cooked fast. 225 steady for 2 hrs. At 135 I took em off wrapped in foil and put in cooler. Dinner isint for 2 hrs, hope the meat does keep cooking inyhe cooler for that long.

Oh man!  I love tri-tip!  Reverse sear to an IT of 115 then on a hot grill for about 6 or 7 minutes!

You just can't beat that!  Let's see some finished pics amper!!!!

Tri tips were traditionally grilled over a medium to medium high heat to medium rare.

Having said that, they will smoke up well.

As mentioned, a reverse sear might be nice.  It will take some experimentation to get that one down right.

Good luck and good smoking.

Kathryn, that's wherei got mine. Costco. Choice meat. The results couldn't have turned out better. They were smoked for two hours till they reached 135. Then seared them in firepit, a couple minutes for each side. Now I need to decide if I will stick with tri tip or go back to brisket (which takes much longer)
