So I found myself waiting along with 450 or so other IT guys waiting to meet with my boss to see if I have a job in 60 days. Sourcing at our company has been a great thing to the Corporate Exec's. This lasted all day for allot of folks and to keep sane I kept thinking of what tasty treat I can pull off the Traeger grill this evening. At 2 PM I got the news and in my case I dodged another bullet. At least until next year.

With that behind me, I walked out, climbed on my motorcycle and rode home with the idea to try my hand at baking dessert for my wife and kids on the grill. Apple Turnovers was the desert I came up with. I had no plans on posting this until I saw how much my family enjoyed them. "The best dessert I have made" the kids said. My wife said "It was Beautiful"!

While preparing i only took 5 pictures so that left me with very little content for a video. I could of done Qview pics but I had some free time to wind down and thought, I would be created and use some special effects and content related to what I was doing to add. Well then I added some humor and end result was a video that explains the process in detail with some fun affects. Don't ask me why I do this...

Recipe

4 Granny Smith Apples
Cinnamon (30%) & Sugar (70%)to taste
2 tubes of Pillsbury Crescent Dough
Pecan Pellets

This is a no brainer but fun. Heat the grill to 270 degrees. Peel and cut up the apples. In a bowl add cinnamon & sugar to taste. 30% cinnamon to 70% sugar. Stir apples until the mix dissolves. Place apples in an aluminum pie tin and place on the grill.

Cook 10 about 10 minutes uncovered then put foil over the apple filling and cook another 15 to 20 minutes. Apples should be caramelized yet still a bit firm. Remove from grill and let cool.

Separate the Pillsbury dough placing 1/2 of it on a cooking sheet sprayed with Pam. Spoon the apple filling down the center of each piece of dough and pile it high. Leave about a 1/4 inch border of dough. Sprinkle the apple filling with Cinnamon and sugar mix. Using the other 1/2 of the dough to cover the turnovers. On each one work your hands around the perimeter pinching the top dough to the bottom and try to roll it upward a bit so the filling stays in.

Place on the grill @ 350 degrees and bake for 10 minutes. Using the caramelized apple filling and a mop, spread the juices from the apple filling over the top of the pastries. Then sprinkle on some more of the cinnamon and sugar mix (lightly). Bake another 25 minutes or so and then remove the turnovers. Let stand to cool a bit and serve warm.

I don't know what it is but biscuits and this type of baking turns out really great on the Traeger grill. I have not tried this on my other grills so I got a bit out of the box on this one and I'm glad I did. This means I get even more use out of the Traeger as it begins to pay for itself.

Here is the Qview & Video. Enjoy
