Traeger Ironwood 885 part name/purpose

I recently purchased a Traeger Ironwood 885 and in the top right of the inside of the grill, above the top grate, there's this piece sticking out of the side. What's the name of this piece and its purpose?

Whats on the other side of the wall? Could it be a temp probe?
