I've spent a lot of time here... too much probably... helped others where I could, learned a lot and most of all, made a lot of new friends. I just do not feel as excited about this place as I used to; it is not the place I thought it was. There are some folks here that think they own this site as their own little club. Y'all know who you are.

That being said, Jeff, I am sorry it didn't work out. Please delete my membership and knighthood in the OTBS.

I am sorry that you feel the need to leave. Whether you know it or not you have been a tremndous help to getting me started smokin for fun. In any public forum there are usually a few people that emerge as high knowledgable about the subject material being discussed. You are one of these people. I watched for your posts and gleamed knowledge from them. Some of it was entered into my "BBQ notebook" for future reference.

Anyway, sad to see you go. Best wishes for your future endevors.

Jeff/Mods, don't let this "ball" get to rolling or it will devastate this site. Just my opinion.

I must say i am VERY sorry to see you go Phil, i think we came in about the same time and would say you've had a lot to offer to this forum!!
I also respect your decision whatever you decide but i don't think anybody has claimed this site for themselve's, if anything your leaving with the people who have tried to take control of this forum, making it a who has the most post's and who can collect the most rep point's!!
This alway's has been and alway's will be a friendly site where a new or old member can alway's gain some knowledge and meet some fantastic people!!
I know i have blossomed many friendship's here and if it seem's i was "crappy" to some people , well i was mad at what they were doing to my favorite place and since i am still here and they aren't i believe i was doing the right thing!
Again, i am truly sorry to see ya go, and hope from these messages that you see the people here really do care and respect you.......

I'm relatively new here and don't know any of the folks here personally but I find this forum to be a lot more friendly than the other forum your going to. I deleted my profile there the other day because of the same reason you leaving here. I didn't receive a very warm welcome when I introduced myself. I felt the other forum was more an in circle of friends and not outgoing to new folks like this one. It's not my intention to offend any one and I'm not saying I need a response every time I make a post. Anyway, my two cents...

I may be out of line here but I'll say what happened for all of you who are interested. I'm not Jeff nor am I a senior moderator but this is one man's opinion.

Recenlty, DeejayDebi started a forum on her website. She had always said her website was there to support SMF. So Jeff let her link to it, despite the fact that people usually are not allowed to provide links to their website. Several people on this forum complained to Jeff, felt that she was promoting her site with the eventual intention of creating her won forums, but he allowed her to do it anyway.

Recently she began linking to her site frequently. Everytime someone asked her a question she provided the answer with a link to her site. I noticed it but never mentioned it to the other mods or Jeff. Jeff apaprently noticed it also, removed one of Debi's posts where she linked to her site. A week later Debi has a forum on her site.

Apparently she and toher members of SMF used the pm and e-mail system on this site to invite people here to her forum. I viewed the forum she has and there were several posts that her forum was the place to avoid the "crap" on the SMF forums. Some of them have since been removed.

Jeff felt it was wrong of her to use his forum to promote hers. As a result he removed her membership privileges here.

Those are the facts as I know them. I have my own opinions as to the situation but I'll try and refrain from posting them. I can tell you that her actions hurt this site and will hurt hers as well.

Jeff Phillips owns this site and it is own little club. He's nice enough to let anyone in that wants in, yourself included.

If you don't enjoy the forum you have the obvious right not to visit it. Mr Philips was gracious enough to allow you into his clubhouse. If you want to leave please do so, but do so equally as graciously and dispense with the negative whining grandstanding, please.

I too have enjoyed your participation over the last few months and will hate to see you leave, but this kind of thread?????????? Really!

I am definitely new here but, I have to agree. I for one truly enjoy all the help and advice that I have gotten here. That said, if any member uses this site to promote their own and trash this one all in the same breath is really biting the hand that feads them, and I must say, childish. If any individual wants to leave, then best wishes and good luck. But, dispense with site/member bashing and get on with your intention. I mean what was the real point of this thread? To draw other members away or to just bash them? Again, I am new and prolly don't carry much weight here, but that is my humble opinion and thank you Jeff and all the other members who have helped me. Now, on to my pig parts.

Ron, I had a feeling that had to be the reason also. Sad to see. We see it from time to time on the Florida Sportsman Forum. People start there own Fishing web sites and become direct competition to the original forum. Believe me, we have some real "di*kweeds" in our OT section and a number of them have had to be banned, not so much for starting forums but for not following the forum rules. Personally I do not see that type of people here and am grateful I do not. I to received emails to check out Debs forum, but I kinda knew where this was probably going to end up and it did, with her being banned. I am still hoping things get patched and she will be allowed back.

Debates on topics like these rarely bear fruit. Let's stick to talking about smoking meat and helping all the people that come here seeking that help.
