I'm extremely fortunate to have the play ground I do! Some of which exists from the sacrifice in time I had to make on the smoker (i.e: working all year on a huge project we landed and having no time to build the smoker or do anything else really)

If there aren't to many more distractions Id love to see it usable early in February. Problem is, when work strikes, I have to drop it, so....hopefully early February!

The plan is to get it built, blast the inside of it (but not the out side yet) and use it a few time's to see what we've missed, or want to tweak/add, make any desired changes and then blast the outside and paint. Again we HOPE this is by April 1 ish.

So when its working, I'll be posting lots of pictures of us using it to solicit advice from the experts out there, Im all over, over doing things so bring on the ideas!

Here is what I am seeing of your project, from where I am sitting. You showed me a pic of  a commercial built rig, and you are trying to copy it with what you have to work with for material. Right?

Its more like, I've never had a trailer mounted cooker before but wanted one so we could take to events and maybe compete one day. Then a friend came along and said, "I'm on board with that", so we started building a cooker.

As for material, I had a chunk of 36" diameter pipe in my yard so we pulled it in the shop, cut it in half and then started looking at hundreds of pictures, reading article after article and figured it out on the fly.

Some of the material I have in my yard, but most of the plate I've ordered in specific dimensions and had a shop cut it to what we need.

One example of on the fly: I had no clue about insulation until just the other day when I made a bunch of calls and talked to some helpful people. Now we've got insulation for the fire box on the way too, Ill need to order some more plate to cover it. (thats what I mean by on the fly, didn't think we'd insulate it and then changed our minds)

It could end up a huge dud... but Im pretty confident it'll be fine! It'll be unique for sure as we'll have all kinds of unusual things attached to it once its complete.

Some progress....

The fire basket.... with crusher deck screen in the bottom.

Prepping to cut the cooker door out

Fandangled hinge

The cutting itself

The hinge tacked in place after the initial cut

Gotta love plasma cutters!!!

A DOOR!!!!! (but wait till you see the end result)

Should have heard him squeal!!

Very Nice workmanship !

Thanks for posting up the pics and keeping us all up to speed on your progress. Looks like you guy's are also having fun in the process and possibly

to keep from becoming dehydrated during your build?

This is why I like these group building projects so much, they can still be a lot of fun even while working safely.

More progress:

Any guess' as to what this is?

WAIT! Shouldn't that door swing up?

Yes we did!!! That door is cut in half!!

The welder is determined to be cooked! But it does look like his welds should hold!!

The general concept, a bit of tweaking yet but Im sure you get the just of it

Closed. Top hinges need to be changed, and it'll need handles and a counter weight for the top still too

Very nice looking build!! Can't wait to see the finished product. It'll be nice when you start turning out amazing bbq knowing you built the machine producing all of it!!

Seeing as this build has been on and off since the inception, no reason not to follow suit!! Heres some more of the build!

Heres us weighing it with a borrowed crane scale on the end of an excavator, we all guessed at how much it weighed at this point, came out to and even 3600lbs (with Glen standing on it) but still wasn't finished. So, now we know!

The slick rig up Glen built for opening the chimneys

End shot while we were fitting the gas lines. You can see the counterweight dangling on the top door. (and the paper towel holder...lol)

first lighting of the side burner! It didn't go we'll, the propane lines were to small for the burner. Off to get new hoses!

Cutting the axle out from under it to move back in order to make room for the second one. We decided it would look cooler with two 3500 lb axles rather than one 7000 lb

Then it goes to a tin shop to have fenders built for it!!! WOO HOO! Getting exciting!!

Heres the first shots of it with the second axle under it. Had to get it on its way to the fender guy so we just grabbed a spare set of rims, don't worry, Ive got matching aluminums on order!!

With new rims and fenders!

Sand blasting racks and interior

The inside after some of the blasting. Had to take it back and finish it when I had more time.

Spraying the racks with veg oil before the first burn in

They first burn in. Had a few glitches that we had to work through but all in all it seems to be doing what we wanted
