Last week I used a cheap Walmart thermometer to cook my ribs. I had ordered a Thermopro tp-20, but it wasn’t here yet. I am also checking the door thermometer as well.

The video shows the door thermometer is about 20 degrees low. The cheapo and the thermo pro are about 2 degrees off. That’s close enough for me...

Within reason. Temps fluctuate that much in the oven in your house. Won't be an issue. It is nice to know where temps are though. built in gauges usually are not accurate at all. Temp gauge/probe is the only way.

Some of the therms can be adjusted, if there is a nut right behind the dial hold the dial and turn the nut or vice versa till they match.

Hi. I haven't been on here for quite a while, but am having the same question about thermometers. I have both a Thermopro and a BBQ Go wireless (one time I was using the Thermopro in the rain and it died, so I bought the BBQ Go waterproof model. Then after a while the Thermopro ressurected itself and is working again).

Anyway today I'm smoking a brisket on my Smoke Hollow Pro-Series propane smoker. The Thermopro and BBQ GO are within 4-5 degrees of each other. The door thermometer is close to 20 degrees less but matches a basic oven thermometer that I put in there just to see.

It seems like the consensus here is that I can trust, more or less, that the Thermopro and BBQ Go readings -- correct? And stop even looking at the door thermometer reading?

Thanks for your advice.

Some therms are faster than others and an inch or two apart can be 10 degrees difference. Even if the door therm is correct, it's not where your food is like the other therms.
