I agree Fred lots of good people willing to share ideas, expierences, and help with questions. Its a great forum

I also agree. I have been to many other forums and worry about posting many times. You typically run in to people that want to mock others and cause problems. I have yet to see anything condesending on this forum. This to me shows a lot about the members!

You'll see a little mocking in here, but it is always good natured ribbing between folks who either know each other or who have developed friendships here. Great gang!

You are correct sir. Sort of a comfort zone, just hang out and learn things and add info when you can. Although my wife thinks I'm nutts when I log on every morning with coffee, somtimes at lunch with a sammy and then again in the evening with beverages. It's great.............You on that smoke site again????????????

Yeah same here. The wife thinks I'm crazy for taking pictures of my meat ....... ?? ah. might need to rephrase that.-- But we watched the alabama cookoff last night and they were taking pics too. So she realized i'm not crazy, but everyone that smoke's is. duh..

I'm a newbie so I can't say much, but I thought I'd share this. Seems appropriate.

A wise man once told me that if I spent 5 minutes of my time talking to every nice person on the face of this earth that I'd never get through them all before it was my time to go upstairs, and I decided, from that point on, that I wouldn't waste a second of my time with any of the "jerks" of the world.

"Jerks" was a much more colorful word, but, well, you know ;)

W.C., jbg ..... i'm sure my wife thinks the same although she never says it

. Hey there's lots of worse things you could be looking at on the web.

This is a great place to hang out, pick up more than a few pointers and have fun all at the same time.

My hats off to the moderators too, who do a grand job of keeping things in order on the rare occasion some idiot makes it onto the boards.

jbg - this had me LOL as I (and others) relate so painfully well. Jon (hubby) always makes a comment when I pull out the camera to take a picture of the q. Maybe for our anniversary I'll make a collage out of the q-vue photos I've taken and give to him as a gift ..

I'd be committed for sure ...

SMF is an awesome place and owe everything regarding my smoking meat knowledge to SMF and the really friendly people that make up the place. A co-worker said to me today (after I shared my smoked chicken with them) "you're really getting good at this!". I had to reply that it's due to the Forum I'm always logged into

Thanks SMF!

I agree. It's a great forum. My wife, friends and co-workers all laugh when I take pictures to post, but they all drool at everyone's Q-View and ask me to try this or that. I just laugh back and tell them I will try it, but since they think I'm so strange for posting pics, they shouldn't support my eccentricity by eating any of it.

It's a great neighborhood we all have here, good friends hepin each other learn the craft and willin ta tell what we have found that works or dosent work. Not many people will do that anymore. Lots a friendships bein built one smoke at a time.

We sometimes ferget what it was like ta be a newbie, lookin fer information ta help make that special smoked treat, it's easy ta say, just do a search, but those of us who have been around the craft fer awhile have a responsiblility ta hep these folks out. I enjoy givin information ta anyone needin it. That's what makes this forum great, the people.

I've been on other forums where ya have ta "prove" everythin ya say. We offer our proof everytime we post a q-view of our latest creation.

So, for those of use with the knowledge, remember share it with others as if they were yer friend, cause they are.

Good post fred!

I was thinking the same thing. Even though I have never met anyone from SMF I feel like I have a lot of friends who share an interest in smoking and were kind enough to help me out. As each weekend approaches I find myself wondering what everyone is smoking -- in a good way of course. Or if someone is working on some mods wondering how their progress is coming along. Wish I lived closer to the SMF gathering site so I could meet some of you.

This is a great forum and really unique in that it is so informative amd friendlly. My dad, who passed away in 2002 at age 75, had a propane smoker he built out of a refrigerator. He was a little leary of computers but I think he really would have enjoyed a venue like this to share ideas and post pictures of his Q.

Good post Fred!
I've met this man, and he knows what he's yakking about!
I love it here too, used the pork butt stickey last weekend, to rave reviews. Couldn't have done it without the knowledge of the forum.

Fred - schedule's opening up; let's get together. We'll talk.

A little slice of heaven we have here!! It sure helps me get by when I am overseas working. Thanks to everyone here.

I'm there brother! My wife said that to me a half hour before I read this this morning. I just tell her that "I'm talking with my smokin buddies."

Y'all are great! Thats all I can say.

Sumo, that's an awesome idea! I play around with photoshop, I might do one for the fun and post it. Any others?

Another vote for that! Once I showed her where they ended up and why, she seemed to understand, and now adds that to just another thing shes gotta deal with

Funny thing is she mentioned to her co-workers how I got into this and snap pics then scurry inside to upload the pics throughout the day. Says they too thought it was weird, but kinda cool.

And yes, this place does rock! Makes me wonder what a cookoff would be like with nothing but SMF members. Would there be "fierce" competition, or would everyone be running back and forth between pits admiring the Q and offering pointers? Methinks It'd be akin to a big family gathering with alot of BYOS (bring yer own smoker)
