A 60 -something, senior law school professor, who is also one of the city’s top lawyers, decides to fail one of his students for his poor performance.
The student, confronts the professor, only to get rudely rebuffed. Undeterred and knowing that the professor loved a challenge, the student proposes a plan. He tells the professor that he would ask a question. If the professor gave the correct answer the student would accept his failure, but if he did not, the professor would have to pass the student.
The professor accepts.
The student posts the question - What’s legal but not logical, logical but not legal, and what’s neither legal nor logical?
The professor racks his brains but cannot find the answer. He puts the question to his expert team in his law firm but even they cannot come up with a reply. The professor accepts defeat, passes the student and then asks him for the answer.
The student replies, “ Sir, you are in your 60s and have married a 24 year old girl. That is legal but not logical. Your 24 year old wife is sleeping with one of your students who is in his 20s. That is logical but not legal.
‘And your wife’s lover failed his exams and yet you have passed him. That is neither legal nor logical.”
