Sometime late last week I decided I wanted to make some chicken & waffles. But I figured why do the same old chicken & waffles? Why not do something a little different?
So here we go. Sunday afternoons chicken & waffles Wonder Dog Ranch style!
Oil going on the weber side burner. So much nicer to do fried chicken outside. Helps with the mess.
Fried Chicken making station.
The fried chicken consisted of skinless, boneless breasts pounded out thin, and some skinless, boneless thighs. These make for some great fried chicken, and it’s different than your normal pic-o-chick pieces.
Breaking stations consisted of:
1. Seasoned flower
2. Butter milk/hotsauce
3. Seasoned flower heavy on the cayenne, and red pepper flakes.
We like a spicy fried chicken out here.
First piece of chicken is going. Now these are some thin pieces so at 350-375 degrees we’re only leaving them in a few minutes.
Grandmas waffle maker.
I inherited this after she passed. I bought it for her one Christmas when she told me she wanted the waffle maker they had at the casino. Lol! No lie! She wanted the exact one she used up there and no other one would do. Needless to say we had to call them and get the info, and grandma had what she wanted sitting under the tree that year!
Tray full of delicious, spicy, skinless, boneless, fried chicken ready to eat!
My Makers mark bottle I fill up every year when we are making syrup at the sugar bush!
Plated and the chicken and waffles are coated in syrup! What’s that in the back of the plate you ask?
Well that’s mac n cheese pressed in a waffle iron! Grandmas waffle iron! Told you we wanted to try something different.
Delicious Mac n cheese in a whole different form. Scout is wanting this piece!
Can’t remember where but I saw something like this done years ago and it stuck in my mind. No real info on how to do it so I winged it. Came out great! The outside was crispy and the inside was gooey and delicious!
The outside tasted like the burnt cheese from the edges of a pizza pan! It was fantastic!
Another shot of the Mac n cheese waffle.
I don’t have this perfected yet but I’m not gonna give out the recipe either. Give it a shot and wing it like I did! We can compare notes later!
Over all this was a great meal! Chicken & waffles on a Sunday.... come on! Not much better! I really liked using the skinless boneless meat for a change, and the Mac n cheese waffles sent it over the top!
Had to top this meal off with a few after dinner mints.
Well I hope y’all enjoyed my experimental Sunday dinner. We sure had fun making it!
Thanks for looking,
Scott
