I'm also appreciate the level headed folks here on SMF. In the short time I have been a member I have learned a great deal from the threads here on SMF. I have also asked for, and have been given, a great deal of knowledge on everything from smoker mods to curing and brine's.

Great group of folks focused on all things grilling and smoking, and dead-set on helping others gain valuable knowledge.

I was just thinking about this same topic the last couple days. I'm on an Archery Forum and another Outdoors Forum and they are basically a joke. I've decided i am spending too much time lately on forums and it's time to step away again because it just isn't worth even reading the BS anymore let alone trying to contribute.
Unfortunately for you folks I will still be popping in here and there. Hunting seasons are upon us, football is in full swing, harvest is rolling and at some point I will get a chance to do some kind of cooking to share again.

That is why I mostly only visit this forum. No BS and mostly useful information with a friendly atmosphere.

I’ve never been on any other forum, I stumbled here a long time ago and only know SMF culture, which is incredible. Posts like this let me know there’s no need for any other forum.

Have fun on your trip!!!!

It is so nice to be on a forum with such great people! I getting ready to go to Playa Del Carmen Mexico and on a couple forums figuring things out. Some people can just be cruel!
I 100% agree this is the best online community out there.

I work in software and IT so I'm using sites and online tools a good bit and run into a number of different communities with all the hobbies and things I do.

It's sad how toxic, lost, ill, and/or extreme people are "living" out most of their "life" through the internet, forums, and social media.

What I see that makes this forum great, versus my wide experience with many others is:
  1. the user community is mostly active in the real world instead of crafting fantasy online lives
  2. this community is focused on a wonderful and positive activity like cooking and smoking food which is a great thing to bring people together, no matter background, location in the world, or differences they may have
  3. a good healthy moderation policy on limited to no focus on topics of politics, social issues, or religious/faith differences
  4. a good healthy moderation policy on being respectful to others with common decency

Almost no other online communities do anything like this, including any social media platforms.

It's amazing how good things can be when simple, well intention, and well executed concepts and behaviors are followed.

I'm thankful to everyone here for making this the best online community I've ever been a part of. This means users, moderators, and ownership! :D
