Woke up and wanted to do something different today.

Had heard of Polish meat market in Utica, so figured I'd check it out.

I was floored! Owner moved from Poland 22 years ago. I spoke Polish to her, and she was surprised! Said my Polish was very, very good, which really made me feel good. While I was there, locals came in and were speaking Polish as well.

The shop is small, but stocked with all types of Polish goods, spices, candy, cookies, pickled items etc...

Then the meats!
Smoked Kielbasa, Garlic Kielbasa, dried Kielbasa, Kabanosy, blood sausage, head cheeses, you name it. All homemade.

I dropped 80 bucks, should have purchased more, but there is always next time.

Hate to say it, but it put Liehs & Steigerwald in Syracuse and the European Market in Syracuse to shame! Longer drive but nice scenery, over the Erie Canal and passed Fort Stanwix.

Well worth the trip. Definitely going back before winter to stock up.

Just a small Polish store in the middle of a neighborhood...

Nice find. When I was young we used to go to a Polish Market and they had all kinds of good stuff like you said. His Kielbasa's were great made his way with ingredients we don't have around here. Sadly he died and they sold the store to new people but they weren't Polish and didn't make the good stuff or carry the stuff the original owner did and they ended up closing it

Blood Sausage brings back memories. Haven't had any since I left Wisconsin in late '60s.
Big Polish and German presence in Milwaukee area.

I misspoke. Actually it was blood & tongue.

OK, don't think I ever had that.
It is actually very tasty. Can't find it too much in regular grocery stores here anymore. I use it in my dad's Panhas recipe. Panhas is similar to scrapple

That is really cool, thanks for sharing Bill. Those “Mom and Pop” type places are usually the best out there. Unfortunately, they are not around as much as they were in the past. I wish her the best and another 22+ years of continued success. Good on you for finding and supporting her business.

Cleveland Oh had Peters Market

Best kielbasa , smokies and Keiska (sp?) I ever had. Would fill a cooler every year at Christmas time to take back to WI. Closed a few years ago, really miss their stuff.

I’m jealous you found a great polish market

Gotta love little places like that!

We've been getting a lot of work in Rome the last couple years. I'll try to swing by there next time I head out that way.
