Bought this on a whim a few months ago because it was a good deal, but I’ve got too many other ways to smoke and projects going to mess with it. Passing on the deal here if somebody wants it.

No mods. I cooked a chuck in it when it got home so I know it works. After that, it’s been sitting in the barn. Just needs a wipe down and she’s ready to cook.

$175. Will meet close to Gainesville, GA.

I was in Gainesville, GA. Sunday thru Tuesday but didn’t log in here…….

/sigh/

I would have thrown that on the truck and carried it home….

Smoked two butts in this last weekend. They came out good, but cooked to fast. Trying to decide whether to try replacing the thermostat or go with something like an Auber controller. Obviously have hopped back on the fence about whether to sell. LOL

The smokers are generally very reliable. I would check the temp with a dummy load (a foil loaf pan with damp sand) and see if it is close to the thermostat set temp. Keep in mind that analog will fluctuate 15 to 20 degrees over and under your set temp but it does average out over the length of the cook. ST sells replacement parts. If you go the Auber route, you will need to set the analog to its max temp of 250; then use the Auber set below that, say 225 for your smokes. Also check the ST forum (not really busy) for ideas.

I have a SmokinTx, they are well built but mine runs hot as well, so I have to set the stat 10 cooler then what I want.
I have had it at least 15 years.

I think this one is running more than “a little” hot. Cooked two butts in seven hours and the outsides were burnt/dry. (Insides we’re still tasty though.

Call smokintex on Monday. I am sure they will help. Changing out the controller and a new element will be inexpensive .
