smokin-it 2 analog turned off and won’t turn on

Newbie here! I pulled my #2 analog unit out of the box and got it set up. Plug the unit in and started the seasoning process. With a little trial and error finally had it going and smoking for about 1.5 hours when it turned off. My problem solving steps I clouded plugging into different outlets. I checked the breaker and made sure the outlets were working as this was the first time I had used these outside outlets. They all check out .

I then let it cool down about 30 minutes in case there was something internal that had a hiccup and proceeded to plug it into a different outlet in a total different circuit .

To no avail …. After 1.5 hours of seasoning I can not get the unit to turn back on.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ? Is there a switch I’m missing or a way to talk nice to it ;)!! I really wanted to celebrate my Mother’s Day Smoking Dinner

Good Morning and thank you fir the welcome!
I found a couple suggestions regarding checking the connections from the back and I will do that this morning. I also read where it’s normal for the unit to cycle on and off and to use the thermometer to verify the temp. I admit I did not have the
Prope in fir the seasoning session so that may be the best answer - newbie learning curves our my speciality. I will try both of these suggestions but if anyone else has ideas please speak up! Updates to follow!!

So if the outlets check out as good, then it is the smoker. There are only 2 points of failure with the analog #2.
The first is in the wiring, the second is the thermostat.
If the wiring it could be a loose connection. Diagnose that by checking the continuity of all power: both legs (pos to neg, ground).
2nd find out where fault is. You will have to remove back to expose the wiring. Then you can check cord, power block and ground connections and finally thermostat.
There are a couple of you tube videos you should watch on how to change the thermostat (Cookshack and Smokin Tex are almost identical for this part.) Changing the thermostat is easy (I have changed 4), just be very careful to not kink the capillary tube.

First things First!! Thanks to all who chimed in and offered this newbie assistance! I will not be shy about asking questions.

Before calling Smokin-it this morning I once again plugged the unit in and Yeap - it works just fine!! SO ….. I called Steve and verified my newbie stupidity! The analog light does turn off when it’s not drawing power so my First mistake was assuming that light off meant it was off ! My second mistake was not using the temp probe ……

Lessons learned ……. Don’t monitor the light - monitor the temp probe! Yes …. Ask lots of questions coz there is some great help out here!

I’m obviously admitting I didn’t read all the info that’s out there before I started but there’s so much I would be reading and starving !

I will move forward and happily use my smoker and my grill this weekend and have a great BBQ feast for my Mothers Day!

Reporting back on first Smoke!!

It was a great success! Lots of room for improvement on the ribs for my personal liking! The flavor was great but a little dry and nots so “fall off the bone “ as I like! The brats were the best! The salmon was actually on my Weber gas grill as I’ve got a Lot to Learn about
Smoking Salmon!!
All in all great time and am excited fir the summer ahead! Now today will be a day with my son in law and his Treager - will do a quiet comparison - I personally know which I will like better!!

Welcome to the forum Vicki from SE Arizona. The SI smokers are pretty much bullet proof. Once in a while though............ Glad you are up and running. Check the electronic smoker posts here at SMF. Good info but not too much on the units from SI.

I have a SI model 2 analog myself and I've done several racks of ribs, pork shoulders and briskets -- as well as 2 or 3 salmon fillets -- and I love it. Glad to see you've got yours working well. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.
