Smokestack height and placement advice

Hello all, I am about to modify my COS with a new smokestack and I was just wondering how tall should it be? My smoker is 18" x 40".

From my research it seems like it should be somewhere around 50 inches? It is a 3" diameter pipe.

Also where should the bottom placement be, a little above the grill, right at grill level or if I move the racks over I can even make it go all the way to the bottom of the smoke barrel.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think your stack height & diameter is determined by the fire box opening into the smoke chamber. Also as the intake opening size for the Fire box.

Dont take my word for it, but there is some type of formula to use to get the best optimal flow.
