Right now I smoke with an Ecb style Brinkmann. Instead of modifying it, I'd like to upgrade, but don't know what would work. I enjoy charcoal/wood smoking so I'm trying to stay away from electric, but I'm afraid I may need to go that way. I'd like something with a door on it instead of lid and having to lift the tank off to access the charcoal and wood. I don't have enough room for a horizontal, so it needs to be vertical. I'd prefer not to spend more than $200, I know it won't be spectacular for that price, but well hopefully be buying a house in a couple years and I can get what I really want then. Any suggestions?

That's the same style I have now, I'm hoping for a full front door not the small kind, and can't lift it to get to coals and wood. Thank you though!

Dyna-Glo Vertical Offset Charcoal Smoker gets decent reviews and is under 200. I know they have charcoal/wood and may have gas options too. I looked into them a bit, but didn't pull the trigger. it has exactly the kind of features your mentioning. Good luck!

I never need to add charcoal or wood to mine wsm I just put enough chorcaol and wood and use the doughnut method can run a 12hr smoke no problems

It's not necessarily the WSM specifically, I just said that I don't want that style in the original post. I can't lift it apart, and never specified I needed to do so to add wood/coal, but I'll be damned if I'm going to clean out the used coals, put them out after I'm finished, etc. Through that door. I lift it apart to do so. Which I do not want to do in the future.
Does that explain it??

How about a Weber 22.5" One Touch Gold? You can grill burgers or BBQ butts or just about anything you can cook on a WSM. A very versatile cooker. About $150, very reasonable.

I'd prefer a dedicated smoker rather than a grill that can be used as a smoker. I think I am going to go with the Dyna-Glo vertical. Thanks!
