Just joined. Was given a Great Outdoors propane smoker.
Love smoked food just never really did any myself so I'm kind of a newbie.
It's a large smoker for me. But with all the buddies I have who love cold beer and smoked food it will probably get too small real fast.

I'm out in CA so I have plenty of smoking weather. Too much really.

One question I do have is how long can I burn on a 5 gallon propane tank? Ball park average is good.

Thanks

Welcome to the site, I can't answer your question as I am a wattburner.

Glad you are here.

Keep on smokin'                              Ed

I personally would have not gone with propane but I didn't buy this. It was in a storage unit I'm helping a friend clean out. Its brand new and I thought I would give a go. Love smoked food and this thing it is good size. Like I said the price was right. Once I get it dialed in I plan on having my buddies over and fill an ice chest and smoker. Is it good to brine beef or will that mess up the meat. I have brined chickens and loved the results.
Thanks and look forward to the advice from everyone. Look forward to the smoking too.

Welcome, Smoke Head! I run mine as low as it will go without blowing out just to keep 240 chamber. I've gotten anywhere between 23 and 26 hours out of a tank.

To SMF glad to have you on board. I have a 40" masterbuilt propane and get about 30 hours at 225 on a 20lb tank. That's good for at least 2 briskets or some pork butts.

Also if you would take the time to read the article on Home page Initial Greeting it contains a lot of helpful info about the sight and on the upper right hand corner of Home page is a spyglass this is a search engine.

Welcome to SMF!

Pick up a tank gauge so you know how much you are starting with & always keep a full tank as a spare.
