Most of the tailgate sized pellet grills will still fit a brisket, as long as you don't want to put anything else in there like a smoke tube or even a temperature probe. The Grilla Chimp will fit a 22lb (18.5lb trimmed) brisket. I'll attach a picture.

I was hoping for a $150 - $200 range. good grief, $600 for a pellet smoker. yikes

Have you shopped for pellet smokers or even googled them? Are there even any in the $150-$200 range? If there are they're probably complete trash. I mean the GMG Davy Crocket and the Pit Boss 340 are in the $300 range and they aren't exactly top of the line appliances. Even cheap chinese knockoffs with no support like the Z-grill will be $300+ Even used I think would be tough to find a working smoker for $150-$200.

It appears to me you're in the wrong market.

I see that lol. I was looking at some earlier on google but they were all very high priced and many the reviews weren't very good on either.

I guess this is what I'd go with. Pricey but oh well.

I know you are looking for pellet smokers but maybe check out a master built electric smoker and add a $20 pellet tube. You can find one of those for around 200

That certainly would be a very good and inexpensive option as well.
As we know, auger driven pellet poopers can have their issues too.

I agree with TNJAKE. any pellet smoker in the $200-250 range is going to be junk and you will be very unhappy! The Masterbuilts are decent smokers and adding pellet tube for the extra smoke usually gives excellent results. I would strongly suggest you also invest in a dual probe thermometer to monitor the temps with as the factory thermometers are nearly always way off!

I got a Master built pellet pooper from Sam's for under $200 on sale.
I would not call it a piece a junk. It does a very good job except I won't call it a smoker.
Adding a smoke tube turned it into a smoker.
Going low temperature takes some manipulation by adjusting the P setting.
It will hold a brisket or 3 racks of ribs laid flat on the grate.

I got a Masterbuilt vertical for under $150 delivered. It even dropped to under $120 briefly after I purchased. This one has been <$200 for several weeks. This one was under$200 a month or so ago. If you keep watching, there are bargains, more so starting mid-July or so.
Fit and finish are a bit better the more you spend but up to ~$1000 they all use the same combustion fan, auger motor, igniter rod, etc. Yup, the guts are all made in China. Which means ebay makes it easy to maintain the cheap units for years.
Methods of searing, crucible cleaning, and controller architecture/programming can vary a bit in the <$1000 units but I'd say that's an argument for starting out basic/cheap to figure out which of these features are important to you.
And there's lots of used pellet cookers on Craigslist, etc. Some because the owner upgraded, others just never got excited about using the things.
Is a $1000 pellet grill better than a $200? Sure. Is it 5X better? I don't know what that would mean. But it's clear for many members on this forum that they've been extremely pleased with some high-priced units and don't regret the purchase one bit. They're the best advertisement there is for the expensive units.
There's a similar dynamic in car forums, etc etc. Some of it might just be prestige. But as my Dad used to say, "you can't eat prestige".
And I can think of other things to spend the $800 difference on. I'm very creative that way. :-)

As a former owner of a Pit Boss 340 it is not junk. It is a very nice unit that I bought to see if I liked pellet grills. I liked it a lot so I sold it to my boss and it's now the office grill. I bought a 1000SC to replace it. I got the 340 at Menards for just over $200. It was a great grill I just wanted more space. So in case anyone missed my point, it's a good grill at a very good price. Inexpensive yes cheap no!
