I've been experimenting/learning with my pellet grill and am having a great time. Lots of good stuff coming off the grill. So far very standard fare as I'm learning the ropes. I really like the various configurations this unit will allow. However, going from indirect heating to fire grilling presents a challenge when everything is up to temperature. I had a long 1/4" bolt that I salvaged from dismantling a wood hose spool and I bent the end into a wonky shape. I drilled a small hole into the BBQ inline with the tab on the sliding drip pan.

A 1/4"X20 flange nut was welded onto the bent up tab on the pan.

This allows the drip pans to be removed with a couple of turns of the bolt. Re-assembly is simple and fast. A simple pull and the inferno is revealed.

No more using tongs and sticks to slide that hot puppy back to finish something with fire.

I haven't used my sear option yet, but I'm getting great results on low and slow smoking. I have a pretty stout pair of tongs that I have no doubt will be able to slide that cover over. That's a great idea though.

Okie Dokie, that worked out really nice. I acquired some AAA top sirloin medallion steaks. Small as they were, we're only small eaters, and reverse seared for the first time in my life. Here's the raw muscle on the grill.

Gate open and the first turn...

Plated with baked potato, twice fried in butter "sliced off corn on the cob" and a beer.

19:45 on a Saturday and I'm ready for a nap.

Looks like it works fine but hope you didn't put it where grease will spill over the side instead of sliding on down to the bucket,I plan on doing about the same for mine but will weld the nut to the center at top, steaks look great

The rod runs parallel to the top of the drip pan. The hole through the side wall is at least 3" above the side grease catcher and outlet to the pail.

I see looks like a easy mod, couldn't tell where you had it attached on other picture ,thanks for posting a better view

I had the opportunity to create a short video of the mod in action. Plus added footage on the added shelves.

That looks great, I will definitely do that to my pb700fb. I have a problem with smoke backing up into the hopper after 2 or 3 hours into a cooking session. I have cleaned everything, including auger, hopper, etc. Any ideas?
