A friend had a huge silver maple removed from his back yard and there were multiple roots unable to be removed at the time. He asked me if these roots were removed, dried and seasoned, could they be used for smoking?

I could not positively answer because I never used roots before but my guess is yes.

I figure wood is wood whether it is above or below ground.

Any help would be appreciated.

I cannot answer that one way or another. I would be a little worried about washing the dirt off the the roots before I smoked with them.
