You gave that soap box a work out! And you're absolutely correct. If I had some vodka. I do believe I'd be having a BM now. Though with clamato.
Steve, do you have some Canadian roots? When I'm on vacation in Mexico, I have found that the easiest way to identify Canadians is when they order Bloody Caesars with that clamato stuff in it.

Real men dont drink that flavored crap:emoji_laughing:...no...seriously...

Love the traveling Bloody Mary kit. I DID in fact have my first Bloddy Mary in I dont know how long yesterday. It was delicious...it was all gone in maybe 15 minutes max...like the old Nestle's Quick commercial!
They're addictive, and you can fool yourself that you're being healthy. I can nurse a beer for an hour, if need be. But put a Bloody Mary in front of me and next thing I know, I'm on my 3rd one.

Natural gas here for the house is going crazy too.
Both gas and electricity are going up here. On my last Xcel bill it said We used 10% less, yet the bill was more dollars for the same period.

Been happening for years every time they try to hide inflation.
I think back to the popular blue wrapped pre filled propane tanks off the rack. They dropped the fill from 20# to 16# to hold the price. For those algebra challenged, that's a 25% price increase.

What ticks me off is many recipes are based on the packaging that used to be.
...
My wife makes a killer chocolate brownie bar with Kraft caramels. Original recipe called for a 16 oz bag of caramels. Don't recall the time frame, but they did the same shrinkflation to 14 oz.
She measured the original weight versus the current bag size amount of caramels and now has to purchase 2 bags to make the recipe. I don't mind.
I'm not a chocolate fan, but caramel has been my forever weakness. I get the left overs.
Thanks guys... that bloody mary was quite tasty! Been too long! OK, so no pics so I know... didn't happen! But I did get the bloody mary kit out!
...
I recognize that as a rendezvous field kit. That tells me it happened.
Been years since I had a Bloody. My favorite was a couple of hot dilly beans in the glass for a garnish. I need to can dilly beans and no salt tomato juice this summer. A fried bacon strip was also a nice garnish.

When I first started working in my office (late 90's), there was a gal who made the BEST spicy, dill green beans for Bloody Marys. She'd give each of us a jar at Christmas. She retired long ago, and I wish I had gotten that recipe from her.

You would think that this wouldn't be hard to do. But I've yet to make a batch of dilly beans that I'm really happy with!

I totally get that. The bar is HIGH. That Tellen Farms stuff is wicked good. If I had to guess the trick I'd say like pequin/tabasco/etc pepper flakes and not the run of the mill "crushed red pepper". My grandfather made pickled green tomatoes and added 1 hungarian hot wax to each qt and it totally makes it.

They are very good. For almost 11.00 a jar. They better be!
There's farmers market that is at one of the campgrounds I go to that sell dilly beans. I don't know who makes them. But they are as good. Or better then Tellen's. And only 6.50 a jar. I usually stock up when I see them. Hopefully they will be there when we go in April.

I've been pretty happy with the recipe in the Ball Blue Book

I drink V8 in the little cans.
Last blood draw Dr said my potassium is dangerously high and to cut way back.

What ticks me off is many recipes are based on the packaging that used to be. Changing a 6oz can of tuna to 5oz should bring a flogging to whoever made that decision! Leave the packaging alone and tell me how much it needs to be price-wise!:emoji_angry:
@chef k-dude,

If Wegmans grocery stores are in your area their store brand tuna is still in 6 oz cans and very reasonably priced. We stock up on the solid white albacore when we get near a Wegmans. It really is a solid hunk of tuna without the usual tuna debris and sheds. They sell it in an eight can pack, too......

We save the tuna water from the cans in a lidded custard dish and spoon a little in the dog's kibble at mealtime. A couple teaspoons do the trick so a few cans of tuna dress up the next four or five meals for the pooches. They just about lose their minds when the smell the lid coming off a can of tuna.

I agree. Wegman's brand is really good.

I swear my cat could smell/hear me opening a can of tuna for myself, from 3 rooms away. This was his usual reply before the lid was even off:
MEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOWMEOW!!!

Not tuna, but I can't open a slice of cheese in the house without being busted by my dogs.

I pop the top off a can of whipped cream and the kitchen fills up fast with all kinda creatures. Everyone gets a blast of it to the mouth.

My wife's cat knew the difference in sound between a tuna can or other cans being opened.

Back when I was a kid canned tuna came two ways. You could get it cooked in it's own oils and juices or IIRC with water.
Then the health experts claimed the version in it's own oils and juices was bad for us and the industry went to packaging tuna in water or oil which was almost always veggie oil. My folks went from buying tuna in it's own juices to getting it in water because we all thought the version in veggie oil was nasty.
I've been disappointed ever since 'til I discovered Wild Planet and their variety cooked with it's own juices and sea salt. If you ever need some truly superior canned tuna find some and enjoy. Sadly it's in 5 oz cans so I don't get the full nostalgic experience of my childhood.
