So Im also a member on a Chevy forum, I posted up some Q-view pics of my last smoke fest and one of the members over there says that he would pay me to smoke a tri-tip and then send it to him, he live in Coconut Grove, PA. So my question is, how could I do this? Smoke it, cool it off, put it in a couple zip locs and then place in an envelope and send it? Is there any guidlines to shipping cooked foods? Has anyone ever done anything like this????

I would think it would need to be vac pac-ed, frozen and shipped on dry ice. Not sure of regulations but there are plenty of BBQ joints that ship cooked meats.

hhhmmmm, is that the "norm"......vacu packed and shipped frozen after its cooked?

You will need to contact your preferred shipper for guides and regulations for packaging. You will want to ship it frozen, packed in dry ice.

Why not just invite the individual over to SMF and learn how to smoke their favorite food on their own?

I don't really know if it is the norm but just thinking thru the process logically. It has to be kept cold(under 40o)and shipment can take a while so my thoughts for maximum food protection is after preparation freeze it then pack frozen product in dry ice to its destination. Might want to call UPS or DHL and ask what the process is. Can't really recall ever getting prepared meat in the mail so I don't have any first hand experience. Or maybe try Montgomery Inn in Cinci as they advertise shipping their ribs.

I shipped $50 worth of tamalas from El Paso Tx to Evertt Wa about 2 months ago. It cost $65 to do that.I froze the tamalas and then pack in box with gel packs for over night shippment. If you use dry ice it will last longer so you can get away with about a 3 day trip which means less money to ship Stiil will be a lot though. RC
