How would it work to use a door from a 55gal drum heater kit. It's cast iron and would save slot of time building a door and getting it to seal up. The smoker is a 70 gal that has a fore box that is way too small to work properly.

Not yet. You can search tractor supply co for the barrel heater to get a look at it. I will post pics of the smoker as I get to start making the changes to get it fixed. I don't have any yet and it is at the welders shop for now.
