Ok I know flames are cool but this is not even 30-45 mins into first time lighting it up and there is a nice wave on my side box. Wth ?

The wood split you have in the charcoal basket is too big by at least 1/3 IMHO.

Oh I gotcha. And so I can give the detail. It's one wood split. But I will chop them smaller thanks for some input.

I agree with CliffCarter I usually use wood chunks in my OKJoe. If i get small logs I usually cut them into like 6" pieces.
