I'll be sealing off the lids on my fire box and CC. I haven't measured the gaps yet but I do know that I want to use the CC at times to grill steaks at ridiculous temps. Based on what I've seen so far rope may be best. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction as to what I need.

The cooker is a 55 gallon horizontal stick burner.
 
If you clean the surface, sand paper or grinding wheel.... The stuff in the tube sticks to bare metal pretty good.... NOTHING is permanent...
