It was a beautiful day up here, and after running some errands with the wife. We thought BBQ'd chicken would make for the perfect ending. So into the local grocer we went, and found a nice 6+ pounder that fit the bill. Not wanting to spatch or beer can it. I thought what a great time to try the spinner again. I've had it for about a year I think and have only used it once before. If my memory serves me it wasn't a very successful first attempt either.

The Beer-pole was asked to serve two purposes this day. First and most important. Hold my beer, and second. Provide juice for the spinner. It was more than willing and did an outstanding job at both tasks.

I went with one basket and the kettle lided. The chicken was sprinkled with Italian seasoning and stuffed with two halves of a lemon. Unfortunately my trussing wasn't up to par and one of the lemon halves fell out. Oh well.

After about an hour and a half. The bird is taking on some good color.

... and she's done and off the spinner. I'm not totally sure how long it took. As my wife's brother showed up for a visit and I can't remember what time I started spinning the bird. Best guess would be about 3.5 to 4 hrs.

The wings and legs pulled off easy, and the breast sliced nicely. It did lack some flavor in the white meat. I really need to start injecting these, and it was a little over-done. Possible the carryover. As I let it sit covered for a good 45 minutes while the BIL was leaving.

All in all we thought it turned out great especially for a second attempt. Also it was a whole lot better then that ones we get from the grocers'. They're usually a little on the mushy side.

Sorry no plated shots. Nothing to exciting there. We had a bag of Green Giant microwave peas along side the bird.

Thanks for taking the spin with me.

Chris , That a beauty right there !! I followed Rays advice / method and spin lid off . I think you get better results like that .
Do you ever use Pop's brine ? Perfect for chickens . Add 1 tsp of lemon extract to the gallon . Inject and soak overnight . You can skip the cure 1 or add it in . Comes out great .

That's a great looking bird bud . Nice work .

Another post from Chris! Geez oh pete. Are you on vacation or did you retire?

Chicken has some nice color to it.

I’ll have to check into the spinner for my kettle. See how much they cost and what not. (Wife is probably gonna have a conniption fit if I decide to get one)

Banjo man out.

Nice! The PBR is my favorite day to day beer!
Thanks Bill, I really like PBRs but Genny's are usually a couple dollars cheaper. So being the tight-A$$ that I am...This six'er was on sale.
BEAUTIFUL JOB CHRIS, CAN'T BEAT A BIRD OFF THE KETTLE USING THE SPINNER. I'M A TWO BASKETS LID OFF GUY, HOPE TO BE BACK AT IT IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. RAY
Appreciate it Ray. I'm fast becoming a believer in the roto, and I'll try the two basket - lid off on my next attempt.

Thanks Rich. I'm gonna give Ray's way a whirl next time. As for Pops brine. I'm not sure I could make enough room in the fridge. It's usually pretty full. I'll probably wind up making a batch for injection purposes. I've really got to get some more flavor in the white meat.

Appreciate it Banjo-man. Nope not retired. I normally take every other week off(vacation) for the months of June, July, and Augest. Do what you can to convince the wife. They are fun to play with. Maybe try serenading her with some sweet banjo tunes.

Looks right tasty! I usually inject them with Tony C's before they hit the spinner.
Thanks Chris. I would have to order Tony's off the internet, and I try to avoid that at all costs.

Grab some Tony C's . Pump it full and hold over night .

Try removing the breast halves whole , then crosscut them . Skin should be good using the spinner , and you'll get some with each hunk that way . I like the texture a bit better too .

Tony C's injection isn't sold here. I'd have to order it online. I can get the creole rub. Maybe add that to some type of liquid. The wife is a huge fan of the first cut off any chicken or turkey. So the slicing is done accordingly.
