I've wonder about those "robots"?
I'd hate to say this because it would add another step to logging in, but adding a CAPTCHA would wipe those bots out.

CAPTCHA helps to an extent. I follow alot of cyber security stuff because I do alot of online gaming and CAPTCHA helps to an extent. The newest and more effective ones actually have you do a 'puzzle'. Bots can easily do word based ones, but it's harder for the puzzle piece ones.

Personally I like the authenticators that use my cellphone for log ins :)

Yes, the puzzle CAPTCHA is most effective.
As for the text authenticators via cell number that fine for verifying too.

My problem is I get so many scam calls on my cell that half the time I don't even bother looking at it when it rings.

In fact I received a call just yesterday from "Jennifer" who advised me that after reviewing my credit card they decided I was eligible for an interest rate reduction.
"Wow, that is great. But I don't have any credit cards," was my repsonse.
Nothing but silence on the other end as the call disconnected.
And another scam caller is added to blocked caller list.

I have special rings for everyone on my contact list. I only answered this call because I was waiting for a call back from a roofing contractor.

I use the google authenticator app for my phone amoungst others. It's a time sensitive encryption key. IIRC it changes every minute. I haven't had any problems with any applications that use it.

Not that I think this forum needs such high level security. I don't know if every one here would want to have a two step authenticator. <I also have some apps set up so not only do I need my encryption key, but also one sent via email.>

If I am not mistaken the forum does allow you to set up a two step log in authentication.
I am not too worried about secure login on SMF either.
