Didn't there use to be a place for recommending restuarants? I can't find it.

Anyway, I'll be im Memphis on July 1st for one meal and one meal only. I'm thinking Interstate BBQ? Anyone have any thoughts?

While I've never eaten there I'd like to try it next time in Memephis. I'd say give it a whirl and let us know how you like it.

A ton of places to choose from, and Interstate is a good place to start. I would recommend these also if you have a chance:

1. Imperial Palace on Beale (Awesome ribs and shoulder).
2. Central BBQ on Central or on Summer Ave (everything from wings to all pork and really good brisket)
3. Germantown Commissary in Germantown (some folks like them, some don't, but I've never had a bad experience there...great if you like hickory

Stay away from Rondezvous if you are looking for smoked ribs...they grill them over charcoal and aren't what smokers like us expect...good in their own way.

A friend who was formerly food editor of the Memphis Commecial Appeal recommended Neely's.

I was not disappointed. Superior ribs; great service; large servings; reasonable prices. All of the Neely brothers seem to me to be really nice guys.

(They have 2 or 3 stores; we went to the one in the Eastern suburbs.)

I just came back from Memphis about a month ago.

I went to a few places.
Rendevous which is right down town. Very good q, cooked very well. The diff here is that they have Oregano in their rub. Kind of a different flavor, but it comes off very well.

We went to Neely's Interstate and it was very good as well. I've read mixed reviews about the other Neely's, (the owner's sons I believe).
This place is really a dive as far the actual restaraunt, which is what I loved about it. It has the feel of the old truck stops/diners I grew up with in Oklahoma.

Either way you can't go wrong.

Great advice from all. I knew I could count on you guys. I'll post back after the trip and let you know where I went and what I ate.

Thanks!!

I just came back from Memphis in May and tried out a few places while I was there. I would have to say that Central BBQ was my favorite, with Corky's a close second. I think Central uses primarily applewood or another fruit wood, the ribs were nice and tender with a little pull to them. Rendezvous is good, but again, they use only charcoal and no flavor woods so it's a different taste. If you need a break from BBQ (as crazy as that sounds) make sure to stop by Gus's Fried Chicken, it's the best I've ever had.

I loved it! My wife and shared the sampler platter. It was plenty for two. Even for two people that really love BBQ! My wife was skeptical about the BBQ spaghetti but gave it try. We both thought it was awesome! The whole thing was awesome. Totally recommend it!!
