After much anticipation I finally received my YS640 on 10/2. I didn't have a chance to post on the forum until today (crazy busy). I was too excited
, and wanted to get it on the deck. My brother and I (couple of big guys) lifted it off the pallet after removing one 2X4. I didn't want to unwrap it until we got it on the deck. We had about 16 stairs to climb....wow is it heavy. Anyway we got it to the deck, I unwrapped it. There is one dent on the bottom. No worries though, I sent a photo to the representative at AllThingsBBQ. She responded the next day, they will send a replacement part. I received all other parts. No need to read the instructions since I read them online about 5 times already
. Did the initial burn for an hour at 400. I then grabbed some bacon grease I was saving and seasoned it for another hour at 350.

I've been trying to figure out the temp on this sucker. I followed the instructions regarding damper placement but the right side was 40 degrees hotter than the left side. I initially thought that I had the chicken too close to the probe, but I remembered that the right side was off during the seasoning. I didn't have time to play with the damper, my wife was hungry and I promised her chicken. As a result from my temp issues the chicken cooked faster, and the smoke flavor was mild. So I was doing some searching and came across this thread http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/143874/yoder-640-damper. I'm going to test this theory tonight hopefully.

Check out the dent on the bottom shelf:

I purchased the A-Maze-N-Tube-Smoker and it worked like a champ (thanks for the advice MossyMO). I could taste the smoke flavor. But mild like I said earlier.

So the next step is to play with the damper to get a uniform temp throughout the grill. Then a biscuit test to verify.  jzzmusician did a great job testing the damper and posting the results.

Congrats on the Yoder and nice looking chicken cook!
Might take a few cooks and playing with the damper, but you will have it down for what works for you in no time! :yahoo:

Congrats, debating between a new YS 640 and a used YS 1320 as we speak.

Thanks folks. After the chicken I've only had a chance to cook a couple of pizzas. My wife loves the flavor so much that she wants pizza again tonight. I've been trying to get the temp even in the chamber. I'm pretty close now. I'll test it again tonight before I throw the pizza on. I plan on doing some ribs, and maybe a fattie this weekend.

I've always preferred brand new if I could. But that 1320 sure is nice. I'm sure you'll be happy with either one. Let us know what you decide.
