I'm guessing you read it from the flat end of the arrow? Odd they just didn't turn the pointed side around as it doesn't point to the what the temps lists

Used it once and then put it away, but just checking

Thanks

Nope lol. The pointy part should be pointing to the temp. Either it's broken or needs to be calibrated if that's an option on that therm. I'd just buy you an digital instant read similar to this. Think they are around 20 bucks

Agree on the digital. Picked up an inkbird a while back for $15. I have one of these manual ones in my kitchen that never gets used. It looked just like yours. Put it in some hot water and it shot right to 130. Try it in some boiling water.

I guess the butt works as well as the point then.

I bought it for $2.50 at the local dollar store (doesn't make much sense there), but used my mothers old recipe for a prime rib roast which turned out fine and tasty

Tried it before wrapping in foil

Next time I'm by the store. Will see what else they have

Thanks

That's funny! Someone put the needle on backward. It gives the same information, but not to the point! China in made.

Edit: maybe not. Stick it in boiling water and see if the needle winds clockwise to the proper temp. The point may be pointing at room temp and won't get accurate until the therm is heated up. Cold, the two I have look similar to yours. I assumed that I was looking at a hot thermometer.

I’d say the needles on backwards.... or... The food was done 3 hours ago.

Bingo!

My deep fryer dial thermometer does the same thing.

Digital are easier to read and respond much faster and more reliable when the cook has imbibed too much of the cooking wine.

I had to teach my children how to read a regular dial clock, too.

I have a couple of bimetal thermometers, and they are okay for certain applications as long as you have time for them to equalize. Agreed that someone assembled that thermometer incorrectly.

A few years ago I was at the shooting range and a guy had a new rifle and scope. He kept moving farther and farther off the paper. Another shooter told him that this imported brand of optics had backward arrows, meaning left was right. Boy, talk about buyers remorse.....

Did the hot water test and pointed end swung clockwise to the temp scale and hit the F/C at the end

guess it works as it’s supposed to

problem solved

thanks

Yep nothing wrong with it, at room temp it doesn't have a marking that low lol old school but still very serviceable
