Back in the day when I was still building houses I had the honor of doing so for a lot of very good people, many of whom are still good friends. One couple we got to be really close with but for some reason over the past few years we just kind of lost touch with each other. Out of necessity I contacted her (she's a doctor) a couple weeks ago for a favor. We chatted a bit and agreed that we needed to re-connect. I offered to cook a nice dinner, they accepted. Tomahawks are about as special as it can get and they are special people so I decided that was the way to go.
Two of the CPB tomahawks I cut from the 103 sub-primal rib section a couple months ago. Both were over 2 1/2 pounds
Seasoned up with a nice dose of my rub. Went pretty heavy with it due to the thickness of the steaks.
Made a Key Lemon pie with Nellie and Joe's authentic key lemon juice
Whipped some heavy cream, topped the pie with it, and garnished with fresh lemon zest
Dough for the homemade sour cream and potato dinner rolls
First batch of rolls in the pan to bake
Done. These are super good!! Did two pans of these
Made some chimichurri with parsley and oregano fresh out of Tracy's herb garden
Asparagus with butter, shaved pecans, and cranberries
Ahhhh...something primal about this that just gets the juices flowing
Steaks on
At the flip. I like what I'm seeing so far
Asparagus on the grill
Steaks all done and resting
The whole spread. Dr. Flo and Jim brought a really nice salad
First steak sliced and ready to start serving. Nailed it!!
Finally....my dinner all plated up.
It was Tracy's birthday dinner. Along with the Key Lemon pie I made, Jim and Flo brought a Tiramisu. Flo just had to light some birthday candles
Dessert plated. So good!!
Something about this meal just stood out as one of my best efforts to date. It was fantastic. There's nothing about it that I'd change. I know the asparagus served this way is getting redundant but it's so good everybody wants it, so I keep making it. Dessert was the perfect culmination to a fantastic meal. Now it's time for a good old fashioned food coma!! We were all pretty much wiped out when we called this one done. We also vowed to not lose connection again and dinner plans have already been made for our next get-together. Jim and Flo are absolutely wonderful people and it's a travesty that we let things go so long without getting together. Not gonna happen again though. We did have a lot to catch up on so there was no lacking for discussion topics, that's for sure.
Well y'all, this one is a wrap. Thanks so much for dropping in and we'll see ya on the next one.
