hey everyone I just got back from my Uncles farm in Alabama and while i was there I had a chance to go hunting rabbit with my step son. we bagged 6 of the little guys and brought them back the ST. Pete. FL. (I will post pics of our trip as soon as i get them on my computer.)

I have never cooked rabbit before and want to smoke them for Easter dinner. So if you have any good rubs or spices that i should use please let me know also should i smoke them at 220 and how long should they take??

I've had rabbit before, but never smoked. The biggest thing to take care on is to make sure it is well done, think like pork.

Here's a thread with some good ideas and links...

I have never killed a rabbit or ate them so I'm not a good judge but if you look at those links that 5lakes gave you and then scroll down to treegje's post and try one of those recipes they both look fabulous and really deelishis.

any one have any ideas on temps and cook time?? I want to make sure i start them in time. I read one thread on here that it took 5 hours but to me that seems to be a long time!!

I just got Jeff's rub do you think it will be good on the rabbit??

Glad I stoped by on this...My mom has a rabbit farm and has about 600 of them so i get all I want....

Rabbit is very very lean and to me dont somke well. It tends to dry out badly. I would suggest you cook as you would pork loin, dont over cook.

The best one Ive done was wrapped with some bacon. Debone it and keep as big pieces as you can with some jalapeno slices and just a standard rub... Smoke at a higher heat so is done faster, maybe even 275 to 300. Gas grill is good for these.

I got 20 pounds ground for sausage in the freezer that I plan on making maple flavored breakfast sausage out of

Good luck and let us know how it turns out....
