Quick Question about new water pan?

I have a MES and my water pan over the years has taken a beaten and looks a little bit rough.  Im just looking for a quick fix right now as I will be upgrading to a new smoker here soon. 

So my question is, Will a small tin foil pan work for a new water pan if I sit it on the actually heating element?  Or will that heat the water to boiling and cause more problems?  Thanks

I'd be a bit concerned about aluminum fumes what with all the turmoil about aluminum and good health, although as long as the pan didn't run dry you would probably be fine...just sayin!

i took out my water pan and thats all i use is a aluminum pan , i am lazy and i got tired of cleaning it
