I have a 30 inch smoke hollow i want to do the mailbox mod to. I hate that i burn up my pellets in the amnps in 3 or 4 hours and i've narrowed it down to too much heat from the element. I see that people are using the dryer hoses and putting the mailbox away from the smoker. What I would like to do is mount the mailbox to the side of the smoker and just open a hole in both the smoker and mailbox for smoke to flow through. Obviously it would be sealed up between the two. Just wondering if this would work? Dont really want a hose and mailbox just laying there on the ground everytime i smoke something. I guess the obvious concern is that with the mailbox attached to the smoker that maybe too much heat would get down into the mailbox and heating up the pellets to catch fire again thus defeating the purpose of it all. I guess I'm hoping that the draft created by smoke coming into the smoker would keep the heat from coming back in. Any oppinions? Thanks Nick

Nick, morning....   It should work the way you described it..... You may have to add vents to the top of the smoker and reduce the air intakes in the bottom, to promote "draw" through the MB mod...  Dave

Thats how I have mine mounted. I just screwed the mailbox to the side of my smoker over a couple of vents. It works great for me. I have gone 11 hours straight on a full tray of pellets in my amnps cold smoking bacon. I usually just load 1 row to get 3 or 4 hours to smoke sausage.
