Bought this new enamel covered cast iron dutch oven yesterday. It is HEAVY! The brand name is Cocinaware. It will come in handy for both oven and range top use. We have a ceramic sheet range top which doesn't give great heat control like a gas range does. I want to find out how long it takes to bring water to boiling in the dutch oven on this range top but I don't have time to stand over and time it. Too many other things going on today.
I thought I might measure 5 quarts of water into the DO and put it on a burner turned to highest setting. In order to know when it hits the boiling point, I thought about putting the meat probe from my Maverick ET-73 in it with an alarm set for 210°. I didn't know whether this might damage the probe or not. What say you? I can put it into a chip of wood that I use for the smoker probe so that it will not rest on the tip on the bottom.
