Question about the water bath

So I have heard people say that the H2O bath is best in the hole between the wood box and the smoker and others say that they put it under the meat and it also catches the juices.

Which way is best? I currently have mine in the opening between the woodbox and the smoker but am open to options.

Under the meat is best as the steam add tenderness to the meat . So if you get lucky and catch some drippings it will add flavor back into the product .
