Sorry I didn't know where to post this question. OK, I have read some about Jeff's recipes but have some questions before I part with the $. Are the recipes on the HOT or SWEET side? Do I need all kinds of exotic herbs and spices, I know my small hometown store won't carry? Do I need to make these recipes by the bucketful or can I make a small batch with ease? Thanks for your help!!!

Siggy,
I have been using Jeff's rub and sauce for several years now and I really enjoy it. I also use others but Jeff's is the old reliable. When I really want it to come out right, I fall back to his recipes.
The rub and sauce is spicy but not hot and the sauce tends a little towards the sweet side and a little spicy ..... very similar to the KC style. The ingredients shouldn't be a problem to locate ..... nothing really exotic. Also, I'd suggest that when you make the rub and sauce, make them just as the recipe says. Use that as a bench mark and then adjust the ingredients to your particular taste. Enjoy!

I make them exactly to the recipe, ingredients should be easy to locate. A single batch of sauce makes exactly 1 1/2 regular canning jars. The rub makes enough rub for just a little over 3 racks of ribs. The sauce needs to sit for a day or two before use to get the full flavor. When I made it the first time I didn't like it (the same night) tasted it again 2 days later and nearly fell over it was so good. The flavor completely changes. Now I always have about 3 jars canned and ready and a double batch of rub prepared just to have.
You won't be disappointed!

I've used Jeffs rub for a month now on alot of things. It is a great place to start. Easy to make w/very easy to find spices(I too live in a small town).

I find his rub to be on the sweet side. I've been "testing" by reduce'n some things and adding other things. It is a great rub, but I always gotta try out something else..........gets boring using the same ol thing.

It is the cheapest rub you will buy. One price, one time, rub forever. Another reason I bought it was due to this site. I want it to keep going and I will try to buy what I can thru him/the site.

I haven't bought the sauce yet. We really don't sauce much at all, but I will be buy'n the sauce this winter when I get a list of things I want to buy from here.

If $20 will break you, don't do it. Otherwise, cough it up as this site will help you way more than that $20 is worth.

good luck

ie, most basic rub that works is k.salt and ground blk pepper. It will work just fine on everything.

Thanks everyone, I did purchase the recipes today and can't wait to try. They sound GREAT!!! Also thanks BIG AL for reminding me that the purchase helps fund this site. I have gained alot more knowledge from the site than what the recipes could ever pay for!

Gotta say I didn't find it that sweet. Try the MDM rib rub for sweet, good too.
As to the sauce, that is a sweet/hot. I am modifying it a bit, wife likes a little more vinegar and I can even add alittle more heat too it. Still a work in process.
But all rubs and sauces are like that. Adjust to YOUR taste. Both of these are a great starting point and will suffice for many peoples taste.

I have a suggestion to offer. If you have problems finding some of the ingrediants locally, why not try one of the on-line spice co's. They'll have a much larger selection than a local grocery store, they will be fresher and cost a lot less. I've used Panseys for yrs and have been pleased. There is also American Spice Co and I'm sure there are a lot more that I don't know about.

Let us know how you like Jeff's receipes after you've tried them.

i was finally able to come up with the $20 for them not long ago. it is the best $20 i have spent lately. i follow the directions precisely. i like them like they are. check out fiesta brand spices. they are very good.

I also use the rub and sauce everytime I fire the old general. If you have a sam's club near you most all of it can be bought there in big bulks. It's a lot cheaper then a regular grocery store.
