For those in the Mid-atlantic area, this is an event located in Slower Lower Delaware that you have to see at least once in your life time.. It's the world championship punkin chunk. They actually have some really big name acts this year! It's not a que comp, but they will definitely have que on hand. Last time I was there I had some REAL North Carolina pulled pork! Check out the page...Just about every walk of life will be there, it's fun just to people watch!

And yes, they do chunk pumpkins, record is around a mile for a 10 lb pumpkin.

Hey Shell, that is one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen... some of the contraptions they use to launch those punkins are... how should I put this... engineering marvels.

If you have never experienced it, then you must do so!

I read about this in a magazine once, It sure would be something to see. I had a potatoe gun when I was younger that would shoot a potato over 300 yards at the rifle range. Shooting a pumpkin a mile would be cool.

I've been there three times. It has out grown itself again it looks like, I think it's in a new place this year..Jo Dee Messina is even going to be there!
They send these pumpins out there, no "explosive" devices are used. some of the are truly an engineering feat. On the web site they have video from 2005 for one of the centrifigul devices, one year they launched the pumpkin backwards and it his a car sitting in traffic waiting to park....twice!

There's all kinds of vendors there too, and I see there is a chili cook off. Look at the size of this one!

The show "Punkin Chunkin" will air the weekend of Oct 27 on Discovery. The Discovery Channel had half a dozen video crews at the 2002 World Championships. We were one of the 5 teams profiled. Look for re-broadcasts of the show "Punkin Chunkin".

I loved the pneumatic cannon from a couple years back. A little adjustment was needed..they kept getting a punkin shotgun 'cause the release valve was too small, and cutting the thing up on the way out...LOL!
