The pellets I use for heating the house are stored in the garage on a wooden pallet. I used to buy five tons at a time and never had an issue. I've cut back on pellet use as I got tired of cleaning the stove and the price of propane has come down. I still have a few bags that are over two years old and they look no worse for wear.

Exactly!!
I used to get 2 tons at a time for my Pellet Stove, until 2 years ago, and I stored mine on a metal sheet with air under it.
I got tired of cleaning the stove & carrying a 40 pound bag in every day, and the money I saved on Electric was consumed entirely on the cost of the Pellets.
So I got rid of the Pellet stove & got a new Bryant Hybrid Heat Pump system with Gas (propane) Furnace Back-up.
Now I'm actually saving money, and I don't have to carry the Gas or Electric in every day!!!
