Propane tank?

Last time I filled the 5 gallon tank was in 09. Hardly used it til recently. Wonder if someone could explain to me how it works? The tank does have liquid in the bottom of it, correct? Does the liquid turn into a gas?

Yes it is filled as liquid propane .usually to weight . the liquid turns to gas at  very low temps .

The liquid is compressed gas, when pressure is released as gas flows out of the tank the liquid turns to gas to fill the space in the tank. Let the pressure out to fast and the heat loss from the liquid changing to gas can freeze your regulator. Most modern burners are too puny and the regulators too small to freeze a tank but I have a old double burner fish cooker that can freeze a tank in mins during a mississippi mid July day
