I am having trouble keeping pellets burning in my mailbox mod, it is on a fridge conversion. I have a 3 in. exhaust from the fridge with a 3 in. exhaust from the mailbox. Mailbox sets right below the fridge with only an inch of pipe between and enters box in center of the electric heater. The intake in mailbox works out to same sq. inches as 3 inch pipe. I have tried 2 ft. of exhaust and 4 ft.

Trying to cool smoke at around 100 to 120 degrees. pellets will burn for about 1 hour and go out. When it is burning I get a good flow of smoke out the exhaust and great smoke in smoker. I dry the pellets for half hour in oven at 220 with door open.

I have used dust at these temps but don't like the amount of smoke that i get.

Any ideas??

You need better air flow under the AMNPS Cheap fix from Staples
Binder clips

Holes in the door provide "once through" air flow... upper air hole stops recirculating air, which is low in oxygen....

Thanks to both of you, I have AMNPS raised as you said Richie. Have a slot cut in the door even with the bottom of mailbox that is 2 in. tall and 4 in. wide. Have tried closing off intake to different degrees but not seeing much difference. Yesterdays smoke burnt all the way to the turn and died. Has anyone else used pellets for cool smoking in a mailbox? Am I barking up the wrong tree with this idea?

Don't give up try a dry burn,no meat or anything in the smoker.you maybe able to see if putting the pellet tray in,lit end in so when it gets to the turn. The turn will be getting more air.
